FLAG The Year of Languages in Georgia
"Georgia Month of Languages"
March 2005 has been proclaimed the "Language Month" by the Governor's office.
(The State of Georgia does not issue proclamations for longer periods).

| Whereas: |
According to the United States 2000 census, 751,438 Georgians, or roughly
9.9 percent of our state population, speak a foreign language; and |
| Whereas: |
The language abilities of Georgians represent a valuable cultural and
economic resource; and |
| Whereas: |
Language and expression in literature and the fine arts of many cultures
enhance the lives of Georgians; and |
| Whereas: |
Celebration of foreign languages provide Georgians a way to celebrate the
rich culture and heritage of our population; and |
| Whereas: |
The year 2005 is nationally recognized as the Year of Languages by many
notable language associations; now |
| Therefore: |
I, SONNY PERDUE, Governor of the State of Georgia, do hereby proclaim
March 2005 as LANGUAGE MONTH in Georgia.
In witness thereof, I have hereunto set my hand and caused the seal of the
Executive Department to be affixed this 24th day of February in the year of
our Lord two thousand five. |
