2011 National Teacher Of The Year
Clarissa Adams-Fletcher
The American Council on the Teaching of Foreign Languages (ACTFL) has named
Clarissa Adams Fletcher, Spanish Teacher and World Languages Department
Chairperson at Dunwoody High School, as
2011 National
Teacher of the Year. Mrs. Fletcher was nominated by the
Foreign Language Association of
Georgia (FLAG) as Teacher of the Year (TOTY) for 2009, then chosen by the
Southern Conference on Language Teaching (SCOLT) as SCOLT Teacher of the Year
and their nominee to the ACTFL competition.
Mrs. Adams Fletcher is a superb language teacher, who makes language learning
interesting and accessible to all learners, infusing technology throughout her
instruction. She is a mentor to new teachers, and a passionate advocate for
making quality language learning available to all students. DeKalb World
Languages Coordinator Rhonda Wells nominated Mrs. Adams Fletcher. "She is an
amazing professional who has grown into a powerful advocate for language
education." FLAG President, David Jahner, notes, "Clarissa's instruction
inspires her students and she understands the importance of language education
in the big picture. She is exceptional and will represent Georgia and our
profession with distinction."
