#5: "Linguafolio"
Presenter(s):Dr. Gregory Barfield, Fulton County Schools and Susan Crooks, Georgia Department of Education
Focus:All Languages
Audience:All Levels
In our performance-based world, wouldn't it be wonderful to have a way to show what our students know and can do? LinguaFolio is a tool teachers and students can use to document a student's progress in language learning. Based on the European Common Scale of Reference, LinguaFolio is the result of a project developed by a consortium of states: Georgia, South Carolina, North Carolina, Kentucky and Virginia. During this workshop teachers will learn about the major components of LinguaFolio and how to use it to aid their students as they go through middle school, high school, college, and into the world of work.

#6: "Centers: Creating a Student-Focused Classroom"
Presenter(s):Lee Nettles, Mary Lin Elementary, and Allyson Hage, Sarah Smith Elementary
Focus:All languages
Audience:All Levels
Looking for ways to engage all students? Tired of doing the same old song and dance? Come see how using student-focused "centers" (originally developed for first language literacy and mathematics) lends itself to foreign language instruction and may increase student engagement, address multiple learning styles, and incorporate other content areas while providing the teacher with an opportunity to assess performance and work with small groups. Participants, divided into four groups, focusing on literature, science/technology, art, and math, move though the centers and create four thematic center activities appropriate to their students' proficiency level.
