FLAG ANNUAL CONFERENCE
Attendance Etiquette Suggestions
Speakers and presenters spend a great deal of time and energy preparing
for their contributions. Please show you appreciation
for their efforts by extending to them (as well as to fellow participants)
the following courtesies. (Based on similar documents used by SCOLT and others).
- Your FLAG badge/name tag is tour entrance ticket; wear it to all
conference sessions and events.
- Be civil, courteous, and considerate.
- Turn off or silence cellphones, beepers, and the like. If you must make
or take a call, step outside before beginning your conversation.
- Conduct personal conversations in the corridors.
- Arrive on time and remain until the end. If you must leave earlier
attempt to do so by causing as little disturbance as possible.
- Use the (main) language of presentation for questions, discussion, etc.
(English in a session which is presented in English, etc.)
- Take only one set of handouts for yourself (unless encouraged by the
presenters to do otherwise). While it is a nice gesture
to pick up handouts for colleagues who could not attend, paid registrants
should have priority in receiving handouts. Note that you can always talk to
the presenter about ways to perhaps accomodate them. Check with the
presenter if you do not receive a handout.
- Be patient when things go wrong (technology failures, etc.).
