FLAG ANNUAL CONFERENCE
Guidelines, Suggestions, Hints, and Recommendations
for Proposals & Presentations

Regardless of the following information, contact the conference organizers if you have any questions concerning a proposal you wish to submit. * This listing is based on a document prepared by the Florida Foreign Language Asociation.

  • State the objective and describe the key aspects, procedures and participant outcomes.
  • Make sure the focus matches the intended audience. Describe clearly how participants will be able to use the presented information.
  • Make sure that title and description match the content of the presentation.
  • Avoid overly lengthy or "cute" titles.
  • Make sure your proposal reflects your expertise on your topic.
  • Show originality, creativity, and/or new insight.
  • Be certain that your topic is relevant to the concerns of the profession and to its practitioners.
  • If at all possible, link the content to the conference theme and/or pre-determined categories.
  • Ascertain that the proposal describes specifically what the presenter(s) and participants will do--avoid general terms, such as "discussion", "review" or "lecture".
  • Make your contribution as active and interactive as possible, as appropriate to the content.
  • Check that your plan is limited enough in scope to fit into the alloted time.
  • Be organized in your proposal.
  • Avoid jargon or invented words that may me misinterpreted.
  • Compose proposals in English. (Program descriptions and presentations in target languages are welcome, of course.)
  • Check spelling and grammar.
  • Submit proposals on time.
  • Presentations may not be used to promote or sell products or services of the presenter; published materials may be used as examples.

Please consult "Guidelines for Presenters" as well.
