FLAG FLES SPOKEN LANGUAGE CONTEST
Guidelines

REGISTRATION & CONTEST PACKET

  • Only teachers who are members of FLAG may register their students for the contest.  Those who wish to join FLAG should visit the FLAG website for more information.
  • The cost per student is $2. This must be paid in advance when registration is sent.
  • Any FLES teacher in grades K-5 may participate.  Only ten students may be registered per teacher, regardless of the number of grades (or schools) taught.  Each student may participate in only one category.  There will be no exceptions.
  • There is NO "native speaker" category.
  • Once your registration form has been received, name tags for each of your registered students will be made and will be provided for students when they check in on Saturday.
  • Bring your own audio equipment if it is needed.
  • We must be informed of any cancellations in advance. Should a student not participate due to an emergency, you may substitute another student as his/her alternate (no change in category or time). Please advise the judge in your room of any substitutions before the performance.

CHECK-IN/CHECK-OUT DESK & JUDGING

  • Only teachers report to the check-in desk. They will verify that all students are present and will pick up the nametags for their students. Students will be judged on a first come/first serve basis.
  • Please double-check the spelling of your students' names on your schedule. Be sure that the judges have the correct spelling for the certificates.
  • The time frame for the entire contest is 9am to 1pm. Teachers and their students will be able to leave as soon as they have finished their interviews. Individual students or groups will be judged at their scheduled times.
  • All students are judged by set criteria and standards, and will not compete against other students. The performances will be assessed as “superior”, “excellent,” or “good.” Each student will receive a certificate. The contest results will not be reported to the teachers or their students.
  • All judges' decisions are final.
  • Teachers may be present during their student's performances; however, they may not speak to the student(s) or the judge(s) at any time. There will be no coaching and no audiences. Parents will wait in the school cafeteria.

WAITING TIME

  • In the designated waiting area, students should not be left unsupervised by the adult chaperones.
  • Refreshments will be available for sale in the cafeteria.
  • After students have competed, they should go to the waiting area. After about 10 minutes, teachers may pick up their students' certificates before leaving the campus.
